BUPA - M.E. Awareness & Information Outreach Session
BUPA - M.E. Awareness & Information Outreach Session
Date: 5 February 2026
Audience: Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Bupa Primary Care Remote Team (UK-wide)
A clinical update aligned with NICE guidance was delivered to a UK-wide remote primary care team, followed by an interactive Q&A. This awareness and information outreach session was delivered by our Healthcare Professional Educational Advisor, Linda Campbell ANP.
Clinical Focus
- Recognition of post-exertional symptom exacerbation (PESE/PEM)
- Identifying hallmark features of M.E.
- Distinguishing M.E. from primary mental health presentations
- Avoiding inappropriate graded activity advice
- Supporting safe, energy-conserving management
Given the risks associated with exertion in M.E., accurate recognition in remote consultations is critical to patient safety.
The session supports:
- Safer clinical decision-making
- Reduced risk of iatrogenic harm
- Consistent NICE-aligned care
- Improved validation of patient experience
Feedback
Attendee feedback was very positive, described as “very interesting” and “very informative.” One practitioner with a family member affected by M.E. particularly welcomed the updated insight.
Ongoing Learning
Slides were shared with the wider team and uploaded to the Bupa ANP CPD platform for continued access.
