All trustees, including the treasurer, are free to work in their own time from home. A laptop will be supplied if necessary.
Who are we looking for?
If you are good with numbers, have an interest in improving the health of patients suffering from M.E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) and Fibromyalgia and supporting our education projects within the healthcare profession, then working as the treasurer of the Hope 4 ME & Fibro Northern Ireland could be just the role for you!
What will you be doing?
The treasurer is a HOPE4ME trustee with an important and specific role on the trustee board. The treasurer is elected or appointed to this role by members of the board.
Generally the treasurer helps the other trustees carry out their financial responsibilities. They do this by:
- Presenting financial reports to the Trustee Board in a format that helps the board understand the charity’s financial position.
- Advising the board on how to carry out its financial responsibilities.
- Liaising with professional advisors, especially the book-keeping and accounting firms that have been retained by HOPE4ME
- Overseeing the preparation and scrutiny of annual accounts.
- Ensuring annual returns are made to both the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland in a timely manner.
- Taking on the day-to-day financial duties, such as book-keeping, budgeting and preparation of reports.
- Seeking and applying for small grants from outside funding bodies.
- Trustees, including the treasurer tend to work remotely with monthly meetings held by Zoom. The AGM is usually held in January at our monthly support group meeting (may now be Zoom)
- What are we looking for?
Ideally people interested in this role will have a background in finance. However, applications will be welcome from people with a more general background providing they have a good feel for figures and understand the importance of financial control in organisations. More generally applicants should have an interest in, and commitment to, the common good, especially in the area of healthy living and lifestyles.
Over the years the trustee board has collaborated very effectively as a team. A new treasurer would be warmly welcomed and encouraged to subscribe to this model of team working.
What difference will you make?
A treasurer joining the HOPE4ME team will help sustain the position the charity has established in the health sector over the last 9+ years through prudent financial management. Their contribution will also enable the charity to also consider new directions and initiatives. The role of treasurer is important in ensuring the long-term sustainability of the charity and its relevance in the health sector.
Ultimately, as a HOPE4ME trustee, the treasurer can feel they are making a real contribution to people’s lives through research, education and the promotion of healthy living and lifestyles.

A new treasurer joining HOPE4ME can look forward to working with dedicated and supportive patient volunteers. The charity does not have any paid staff, such is our dedication to the aims and objectives and as to why the charity was initially formed in 2011.
